Wellness is "the balanced development of the total person..." (BYU Mission Statement), and is holistically comprised of six dimensions,
Spiritual, Physical, Intellectual, Financial, Emotional, and Social.
"A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another."
John 13: 34-35
Social Wellness
Social wellness is about striving to nurture relationships in a way that fosters feelings of belonging and creates the foundation of support that one needs in order to overcome hardship, develop emotional resilience, and navigate a world full of people. Having a firm social foundation can help to increase confidence during all other social interactions.
This year, we will highlight Social Wellness during September and October.

Social media conversations are driven by those on the margins, says new BYU research
The study found that most people – moderate Democrats and Republicans – are self-censoring their comments on social media to not create contention, lose friends online, or be perceived a certain way.

Media messages that humanize outgroups don’t combat prejudice, new BYU study finds
Humanizing messages does almost nothing to increase empathy in people with high animosity toward an outgroup, although they do increase empathy in those who already view the group positively.
